Use Shadows to Explore Limbo in Platforming Indie Inumbra

Inumbra, an indie 3D platformer from Stolen Kelp, is available now to wishlist on Steam! After the devs recently announced their big return, they continue to share more progress updates and market the trailer, which quickly won my attention.

In Inumbra, players must lead souls through limbo as an ancient guide, solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles. However, you’ll need to become the shadows to traverse the strange world, while encountering a variety of enemies and traps.

Inumbra doesn’t have a release date just yet. Since it only recently joined Steam, that does give us an idea of its development timeline. Stolen Kelp teased the art design and mechanics in a recent gameplay trailer via X:

I always relish an indie platformer with a high-concept premise, and Inumbra’s trailer hints at some fun twists! Thus far, the art style reminds me of the 3D adventures my wife and I grew up with. I also enjoy moody and patient platformers, which Inumbra appears to be.

It already has a defined setting with a solid mystery at its core, and combines a few neat influences. In fact, the game wears those on its sleeve, likely to its benefit. The devs mentioned both Splatoon and Ori in a recent post on X, and I think that’s a really promising recipe.

Although SCHiM partly struggled, that was mostly due to QOL issues, rather than its premise. Shadows also seem more organic in Inumbra’s released footage, serving a natural purpose for the setting and its pensive obstacles.

I’m very curious to play this one, and I’m surprised it flew under my radar for so long! I’m delighted the devs returned to the project. They had a lengthy hiatus, so fans should certainly tune in again for updates!
