Enter a Gamedev’s Mind in The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest Demo

The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest, a 2D dark comedy adventure from indie developer and publisher Elden Pixels, has a new demo! The devs also released a fresh gameplay trailer for Steam Next Fest, teasing its bold and unapologetic attitude.

In The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest, players must survive the escalating anxiety of a game developer, presented as a metroidvania world. You’ll need to master platforming skills to overcome various enemies and bosses. You’ll also probably need to brace yourself for its witty, brazen humor.

Although a demo is now available via Steam, The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest doesn’t have a full release date yet, so I haven’t played the entire game. In the meantime, here’s the latest trailer from YouTube:

The Prisoning immediately grabbed my attention with its announcement trailer back in 2023. It has a clever and surprisingly honest premise. That same tone comes through in the dark humor too, though it may not appeal to everyone.

That place of honesty definitely looks to justify the meta humor, so the premise doesn’t feel like a gimmick at all. It reminds me a bit of Devolver Digital’s more rebellious games, like Stick it to the Stickman.

Everything in The Prisoning‘s new trailer continue to tease that it can fulfill the promise of a fun and bizarre fever dream!

Elden Pixels released the moody 2D adventure A Void Hope last year, where the devs showed a talent for catchy visuals and slick storytelling. So, I’m very curious to see how they explore comedy and such personal territory in The Prisoning.
