Film Creatives Tease Debut Indie Roguelite MechAnimals at MIX

LBR returns just in time for MIX Summer Showcase, where new indie developer and publisher BouncyBrain revealed a fresh demo trailer for their debut game MechAnimals!

In MechAnimals, tiny animals pilot giant mechs to battle an evil corporation in a vibrant, diesel punk dystopia. During your roguelite adventure, you can upgrade mechs and discover new ones. According to the official Steam page, gameplay will feature solo, co-op, and even PvP for up to four players.

At this time, MechAnimals does not have a release date yet. However, fans can already check out a demo on Steam. Here’s the latest trailer from today’s MIX showcase:

In addition to growing up with games like MechWarrior 2, I happen to be a lifelong movie geek. So, I was happily surprised to learn that Hollywood creatives actually formed developer BouncyBrain!

Per the Steam page, these animators worked on films like “Kung Fu Panda and The Mario Movie.” I enjoyed both films, in different ways. But they certainly share a flair for dynamic and creative action. I’m very curious to see how the developers’ established talent for eye-catching visuals will translate into gaming.

Devs often add cute animals to just about everything, including mechs—I’m still waiting on 2D fighter Punchimals. However, I do appreciate MechAnimals’ fun setting and basic premise about an evil mega corporation.

On Steam, BouncyBrain also describes the game as a “big-budget Hollywood animated movie but with an edgy tone that would never get approved by the big studios.”

So, I can’t help but sense some genuine rebel spirit, and I’d love to see that come through boldly and proudly in-game. I’m hoping for an ambitious, splashy, unusual debut.

Fortunately, the trailer for the new demo looks promising, a delightful game to welcome me back into the gaming MIX after my wedding! Do expect weekly news and reviews again, readers.
