Survive Strange Worlds Inspired By Vintage Toons in CannonHead

CannonHead, a third-person action shooter from solo developer and publisher R3D, is getting new updates via X! This includes a variety of footage for in-progress gameplay, revealing even more zany delights that immediately caught my eye.

In CannonHead, players travel across a range of unusual worlds to escape their old boss after a questionable exit strategy. You’ll recruit new companions and collect new gear to help you survive the adventure.

At this time, CannonHead does not have a release date or window. However, you can still wishlist the game on Steam. You can also check out the regular new updates on X, like today’s amusing new gameplay clip:

If the title brings Cuphead to mind, that may not be an accident. CannonHead is also inspired by vintage rubber hose animation, albeit with a 3D twist, and I’m already impressed!

Between Cuphead and Bendy, it would be all too simple to use the rubber hose style as a gimmick. But CannonHead wisely appears to emphasize the unexpected, with oddball characters and storytelling.

Paired with the colorful worlds already in the works, I expect a pretty strong outing that stands apart from existing games with similar settings. I appreciate just how refined the movement and visuals are, and how much they embrace the bizarre!

Naturally, I haven’t played the game yet, so I hope it lives up to the wacky teasers that keep popping up. They have ample charm and a fun sense of humor. In fact, the premise alone gave me a laugh, so I knew I had to share this one with you.
