Alien RPG Adds Romulus Content, Miniatures & More in Evolved Edition

Free League Publishing officially launched a new Kickstarter campaign for an “Evolved Edition” of its Alien tabletop RPG today! As you might expect, the campaign has already met its goal by a narrow margin of, well, it’s swiftly approaching a million dollars.

In the Alien RPG, players explore the iconic universe that’s continued to grow since Ridley Scott’s original cinematic masterpiece. Guided by a comprehensive and clever rulebook, you’ll use familiar vehicles, weapons, and more to see if you can survive the mystery and horror.

Free League’s Alien RPG has been an established hit for years. The “Evolved Edition” promises updated rules, content inspired by Alien: Romulus, a miniatures line, a solo mode, and more.

Allow me to confirm my bias—I’m a massive fan of the film series! I admire the filmmaking, worldbuilding, and its consistent ability to surprise.

I’ve enjoyed both the simpler themes of the unknown and corporate greed, and the profound ideas about existential crises and humanity’s relationship with AI. I also appreciate that the Alien series indulges both patient horror and bombastic action.

So, Free League’s RPG had a lot to live up to! I’m pleased that it did ultimately find so many creative ways to translate familiar ideas.

I’m very curious to see how stress and stealth mechanisms change. I’m also relieved that the new miniatures set, which looks properly classy, can serve both the new adventure Rapture Protocol and universal stories.

Some fans were disappointed by the “greatest hits” aspect of Alien: Romulus, but I adore the film. It still told its own story with a compelling sibling dynamic, and it balances disturbing horror with inventive action. So, I’m delighted it joined the Alien RPG! Who doesn’t want their own zero-gravity scene?

Romulus likely welcomed a whole new generation of Alien fans following a cinematic hiatus. It was definitely a wise decision to introduce another RPG starter kit.

The Evolved Edition also has a solo mode, which always makes it easier to enjoy games on your own schedule! It’s a natural addition for this franchise, and I hope it captures a tone akin to Alien: Isolation.

While I haven’t played this updated game yet, I do plan to review it some time. There are more than enough incentives for new and established players to check this one out, so support the Kickstarter now for those perks and updates! Free League also has a Kickstarter coming for its anticipated Invincible RPG.
