Prominent RPG team Free League Publishing just announced today that they’re planning a brand-new TTRPG set in the Invincible universe! Free League confirmed just a few small details alongside a brief teaser trailer.
In the Invincible TTRPG, players can explore the famous comics universe from The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman in a whole new way. Today’s trailer description mentions it will use the Year Zero Engine, popularized by Free League games like the Alien RPG. That also has a Kickstarter coming for the second edition starter set, which can’t get here soon enough!
Free League revealed that Invincible’s new Kickstarter campaign is coming sometime “later this year.” The project will kick off with a “comprehensive Core Rulebook and Starter Set.”
I’ve covered a couple of Free League expansions before, such as the Lord of the Rings Elven Expansion, and I’m a longtime fan. So, needless to say, I’m just one of many happily surprised that Free League is leaping into this particular universe! I just couldn’t resist covering this one today, even if you’re well aware of news this big.
Invincible is a brutal superhero world that most will probably recognize from the Amazon series. Especially since fans seem pleased with the new, long-awaited season that just dropped.
I am very curious to see how Bradford and Härenstam approach this game. There’s a lot of potential to explore well beyond familiar territory. And there is most definitely a place for Invincible in the RPG world, where players already happily dive into grim stories like Werewolf: The Apocalypse.
While gory extremes can sometimes be a simple, playful twist on superheroes, Invincible is consistently character-driven. It feels gritty because you’re invested, instead of just enjoying a mischievous laugh.
So, Invincible: Guarding the Globe and a cameo in Mortal Kombat just aren’t enough! Invincible has a broad scope for epic storytelling, and bloody consequences that should keep the stakes pretty high. Also, RPG fans will likely find many amusing new ways to die, a real treat in Free League’s Alien. This could be a truly satisfying match, so follow the campaign!
