Battle Robots Through Dangerous Labs in Autonomous Odyssey

Autonomous Odyssey, an indie sci-fi platformer from SunOracle Games, has a new trailer and 2025 release window for its upcoming demo. The trailer showcases animated cutscenes, gameplay, and a brief story breakdown.

In Autonomous Odyssey, players lead Pim as they navigate a series of apocalyptic labs to find their father. You’ll need to overcome a variety of platforming obstacles and dangerous robots while solving puzzles, collecting parts to repair or gear up, and more.

With a demo still on the way, Autonomous Odyssey does not have a release date yet. So, naturally, I haven’t played yet either—but you can wishlist the game on PC via Steam.

Hand-drawn indies continue to catch my eye! The charming art design in Autonomous Odyssey has some incredible backgrounds, filled with neat little details that add to the story.

I find an emphasis on storytelling very appealing in any genre, and I was happily surprised that this metroidvania is going to feature cutscenes. Everything in this game appears to serve the narrative. And the trailer reinforces that, with big moments for character interactions and cinematics.

Autonomous Odyssey seems to harken back to the platformers I grew up with, from the music to the practical collectibles. While the gameplay itself doesn’t seem groundbreaking thus far, I am excited by the prospect of a multi-purpose collectathon and puzzles.

SunOracle Games was only just founded in 2019, according to its main site, so there aren’t existing titles to compare. But I already see a lot of promise in Autonomous Odyssey, and especially in its worldbuilding. Keep an eye on this small team!
