Godzilla Battles Cthulhu in Death May Die Forbidden Reaches, On Gamefound Today

Prolific tabletop publisher CMON is combining two beloved juggernauts, Godzilla and Cthulhu, with the new Cthulhu: Death May Die – Forbidden Reaches expansion.

In Cthulhu: Death May Die, players work together as a group of investigators to defeat an Elder God. You’ll need to collect clues, battle cultists and bizarre enemies, and keep your sanity long enough to survive.

CMON launches a new Gamefound campaign for Forbidden Reaches today. This week, fans got another trailer that reveals some components and other content that players can expect.

Cthulhu is pretty popular among horror games, an easy way to earn goodwill with psychological horror fans like me and my fiancee before we even sit down to play. So, it’s tough for a Cthulhu game to stand out, and Death May Die accomplished just that in previous releases!

CDMD has terrific pacing that doesn’t detract from the theme. The weight has broader appeal, and the dice mitigation is also surprisingly balanced, which goes a long way for me.

And as always, CMON’s miniatures impress. I only just got my Marvel United Multiverse pledge, but its oversized miniatures are truly epic! Galactus was the first thing that hit my table.

So, that’s just one reason I’m thrilled for the new Godzilla crossover—it’s sure to be a worthwhile collectible, regardless of gameplay. But I appreciate that players can confront Godzilla alone or in the main event battle.

The Forbidden Reaches expansion, per the pre-launch livestream, likely includes enough fresh ideas to intrigue both newcomers and longtime fans. Location effects are probably a highlight for most! These give the player more opportunities to interact with the world, often making it feel more lifelike, dangerous, and strategic.

I’m pleased to see that Death May Die continues to both evolve and broaden its gameplay. While Godzilla is definitely exciting, Forbidden Reaches is doing a good job thus far of making sure it doesn’t feel like a gimmick. So, I feel it’s worth following the Gamefound campaign for other potential updates!
