Build powerful Ninja Clans in Pride of Ninja, now on Kickstarter

Pride of Ninja, a strategy card drafting game from Ninja Star Games, launched a new Kickstarter campaign on October 29 and it’s already fully funded. This competitive tabletop game features gorgeous artwork based on feudal Japan, and it may only be available via Kickstarter.

In Pride of Ninja, players assemble their clan from the same pool of cards. Then, you’ll strategically play cards and use abilities, deceiving opponents and slaying enemies in a race to reach the winning score of victory points. Gameplay supports 3-5 players.

Ninja Star Games previously succeeded on Kickstarter with TTGs like Reputation, Arkham Ritual, and Yokai Septet. While its games are very distinct from each other, most of them seem to share the same quick pace as Pride of Ninja.

I haven’t had the chance to play Pride of Ninja, but I am already impressed by the attitude and speed. The artwork alone is eye-catching enough for anyone.

The art design is dramatic, full of motion and characters that are sure to capture your imagination and inspire you to draft them. They really define the world, and even though the illustrations are detailed, they aren’t messy.

It’s probably easier for mass audiences to connect with this theme than Ninja Star Games’ other TTGs. While I rarely enjoy victory point games, building ninja clans is a clever fit for the drafting genre.

Pride of Ninja appears to tinker with simple risk-reward mechanics, allowing faster gameplay without losing a sense of strategy.

The 3-player minimum likely serves that purpose too, though it might frustrate some players. It would be fun to involve my fiancee in a two-player match, especially as l5r fans!

I’m interested in Pride of Ninja’s strategic tension and artwork. I’d enjoy collecting this art regardless of finding it in a tabletop game. So, be sure to check out the Kickstarter while you still can to support indie creators!
