Master the elements as a Cat Mage in roguelike shooter Arcane Blast

In a new post on Twitter/X today, indie developer and publisher released a new trailer for Arcane Blast, its roguelike third-person shooter about a betrayed sorcerer reborn as a cat.

In Arcane Blast, players explore and try to escape the mysterious ShadowVille, selecting a variety of upgrades for their “spells, abilities and modifiers.” To defeat enemy creatures and bosses with unique weaknesses and behavior, you’ll need to master and combine elemental powers.

Arcane Blast will also support multiplayer with scaling difficulty. You can try a demo of the game now on PC via Steam. There is no concrete release date for the game. However, the Steam page currently lists a release window for Q3 2024.

In a recent Twitter post, the devs mentioned that Campfire Studio is composed of just two people. So, I’m very impressed by the latest trailer, which teases the scope of the gameplay mechanics and some fun voice acting.

Introducing an animal-theme to any game is an easy shortcut for goodwill, but it does line up here with Arcane Blast’s tremendous sense of lighthearted fun.

While I haven’t had the chance to play the game yet, the trailer is filled with colorful and fast-paced action. It hints at a delightfully silly tone, and there seem to be some similarities to classics like Risk of Rain.

The elemental theme and enemies feel a bit familiar, but the sheer volume of content sounds terrific. Especially with multiplayer coming, a challenging and welcome addition to any indie.

The movement may not look totally smooth just yet, but it definitely seems satisfying. The agility also further justifies the cat theme, with some creative maneuvers that should work in such a splashy, stylish world.

Overall, Arcane Blast looks inspired enough for me, particularly if it follows through with more humor too.
