Build massive automated space factories in Shapez 2

Tobspr Games has released a brand-new devlog for Shapez 2, a relaxing strategy and management game about building factories in space. The devlog reveals various new features, such as gameplay customization options and more.

In Shapez 2, players must build and automate factories in order to process unique geometric shapes in outer space. You’ll need to solve production challenges, using multiple layers and unlocking new technologies to advance. There are no enemies or time limits, and multiple difficulty presets.

There is currently no exact release date for Shapez 2. According to the official Steam page, the devs plan to launch Shapez 2 into Early Access sometime in August 2024.

Factory games can often seem very intimidating for newcomers, since they demand unique management and problem-solving skills. Shapez 2 promises a safer introduction to the genre by omitting enemies and other typical obstacles altogether.

However, it’s still unclear if the streamlined nature of Shapez 2 will actually appeal to new players. It doesn’t offer a very specific theme, though its space setting is certainly much friendlier than the game’s predecessor.

Shapez 2 is a follow-up to 2020’s shapez, which earned Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam. It’s clear the creatives understood the essence of what makes this genre so appealing. So, at the very least, existing fans are sure to be pleased.

The blend of strategy and craftwork, and the opportunity to experiment, seem ready to return in Shapez 2. Its visuals are also far more elaborate and colorful, with a cozy look that still feels technical. It’s akin to something like SolidWorks.

Combined with the sheer scope and flexibility of the mechanics, Shapez 2 could potentially be the definitive game of its genre. It aims to expand in interesting new directions. And today’s new devlog proves the devs are already listening to players, even ahead of Early Access.
