Become an Orc life coach in strategy indie Don’t Kill Them All

In a new post on twitter, indie developer and publisher Fika Productions officially announced Don’t Kill Them All today, a strategy and base-building game about orcs. Fika Productions previously worked on Ship of Fools, and that same comedic spirit also appears to extend to the devs’ latest project.

In Don’t Kill Them All, players must build a clan of orcs and teach them mindfulness, emotion, and restraint. You’ll explore different regions to raid, develop your base, and find your orcs’ unique passions. In turn-based combat, you’ll have to manage limited commands to earn as many resources as possible.

Naturally, Don’t Kill Them All does not currently have a release date or window just yet. However, the game launched a new Kickstarter campaign this week. The devs explain this move could help interest publishers and investors, and to involve the community.

Fika Productions still has plenty of goodwill from Ship of Fools. That indie roguelite was a welcome surprise, with an equal share of charming strangeness and humor. Although Don’t Kill Them All has some very familiar genre mechanics, its fresh context is inspired.

Orcs are a fantasy staple, and Don’t Kill Them All promises some genuinely amusing contrast for their traditional behavior. However, that behavior also translates into challenges that players have to wrangle. So, there’s an opportunity for the premise to cleverly influence all of the basic gameplay.

For example, the game’s official Steam page suggests that players should manage the “mindful stability of your camp.” Orcs need motivation, and nurturing a classic enemy with ordinary tasks is sure to earn a laugh.

The Kickstarter goes into much further detail, and makes it clear that the orcs have personalities worth exploring. They can be stubborn, and even develop bonds. I’m curious to see how Don’t Kill Them All evolves and if it can break new ground.
