Save the world from a Demon Apocalypse in The Devil Within: Satgat

The Devil Within: Satgat, a dark fantasy 2.5D platformer from developer Newcore Games and publisher Astrolabe Games, has another fresh update for its Early Access version. The game launched into Early Access just last week on April 9th.

In The Devil Within: Satgat, a royal guard races to destroy the source of a demonic apocalypse while their own humanity dwindles. Players must uncover new enhancements, upgrade their abilities, and absorb unique skills by defeating Arch Devils.

The new update rolls out today, addressing more fan feedback with balancing improvements and bug fixes. It also introduces a surprisingly comedic Eggscalibird weapon, for players who die more than twice. Newcore Games showed it off in a new post on Twitter:

Though I haven’t played The Devil Within: Satgat yet, fan responses are already enthusiastic, and its premise and trailers look very promising. The art design seems to mix pulpy fun with soulslike fantasy, with gorgeous level design.

In each trailer, the world feels rich with history. The game’s official Steam page similarly concentrates on narrative, hinting that the lore informs nearly every mechanic. So, it doesn’t rely on style alone.

For those who cringe at the prospect of yet another soulslike, The Devil Within: Satgat appears to provide some very worthwhile twists. Though, admittedly, the contrasting tone of the Eggscalibird is odd. It’s almost a playful punishment for dying early.

The Steam page mentions that “we expect the early access period to last from 9-12 months.” But although full release is still far off, the devs frequently update the EA version.

I’m impressed by how many updates they’ve already mustered, closely listening to player feedback. This open communication is worth celebrating, certain to improve the game and build trust with newcomers.

It also implies that the full version is going to be absolutely packed with content, so I’m definitely intrigued.
