Warden’s Will, a roguelite hero shooter from indie developer and publisher Elyzio, has a new teaser trailer today. Though brief, it reveals more bullet hell combat and hero abilities.
In Warden’s Will, players must upgrade unique superheroes and their base to defeat an evil, extra-dimensional AI. You’ll need to shoot enemy robots, uncover clues about your creators’ past, and even solve puzzles. Gameplay includes both solo and co-op support for up to 3 players.
Warden’s Will doesn’t have an exact release date yet. But the official Steam page currently has it slated for a 2024 release window.
Warden’s Will resembles quite a few titles, and Risk of Rain 2 immediately came to mind. But that indie hit is certainly a good role model, and Warden’s Will seems to offer enough unique features to distinguish itself.
Some players might also be concerned about the multiverse premise, and truthfully, the lore doesn’t intrigue me all that much. But the slick movement, expansive worlds, and promise of a puzzle-driven story are definitely compelling.
The Steam page mentions that each “Warden” hero has their own unique abilities and movement. I am very impressed by the natural fluidity of the motion in today’s teaser.
Combined with the notion of harnessing “over a hundred upgrades”, I’m excited to see how each Warden can push gameplay limits during combat. I’m also curious if these countless upgrades will help solve puzzles.
Surprisingly, “all boss abilities are procedural” in Warden’s Will. Ordinarily, learning enemy behavior is a central point of any roguelite, particularly for bosses. It allows players to adapt. But I like the idea of an unpredictable boss fight, even if it could prove very punishing.
Elyzio was formed in 2022, and Warden’s Will is its debut game. Between the energetic visuals and interesting mechanics, shooter fans should definitely keep an eye on this.
