In a new press release, Free League Publishing announced today that Blade Runner RPG expansion Case File 02: Fiery Angels will release on April 2nd, 2024.
In Case File 02: Fiery Angels, Blade Runners must investigate a suspect who attempted to infiltrate the Wallace Corporation Memory Vaults. It also “continues story elements” from Case File 01, and explores “the boundaries of Replicant technology and its consequences”.
The Blade Runner RPG is a unique spin on the Year Zero Engine, focusing on moral dilemmas, mystery, sci-fi action, and dark themes.
Fans can already pre-order Case File 02: Fiery Angels to receive immediate access to the PDF. The physical release will include new handouts, full-color maps, a manila envelope for evidence, and more.
Case File 02: Fiery Angels features returning writers Tomas Härenstam and Joe LeFavi. However, the premise and early reactions promise that the story is a smart elaboration, possibly with closer ties to the original film.
While I haven’t played Fiery Angels yet, the Year Zero Engine is tried and true, and lends itself to Blade Runner’s atmosphere.
The physical edition is likely worth the wait, despite pre-orders providing immediate PDF access. Although core rulebooks are the heart of a TTRPG, themed components offer tactile immersion that goes a long way.
The Blade Runner starter set included an unusual volume of physical components, with many cards and unique handouts. It could be strange to continue Case File 01 without matching new materials.
Fiery Angels adds a decent share of fresh components, and that manila envelope is a nice touch. The seven full-color maps should also create a wider sense of scope.
The art design simply looks gorgeous, and captures the central grunge and colors of the classic film. Hopefully, the narrative expands on the previous case and overall lore with another sharp, grounded take.
