Indie platformer Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus sets release date for July 2024

Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, a 2.5D platformer from developers Squid Shock Studios, Christopher Stair, and Trevor Youngquist, officially launches on July 18th, 2024.

Squid Shock announced the release date in a new Twitter post, which also featured the latest gameplay trailer.

In Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, a celestial blossom named Bo explores a dreamlike world inspired by Japanese folklore. Players will use a unique move-and-reset system, use tea to unlock new abilities, and collect Daruma dolls for allies. There are also Metroidvania elements to each stage.

Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch.

The hand-drawn artwork in Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus looks absolutely stunning. The level design and creatures are inventive takes on genuine folklore.

The game looks like it’s full of heart, personality, and indie verve. There’s an incredible sense of energy throughout today’s release date trailer. The world is colorful, brimming with life, and packed with small cultural details.

The devs also created a lot of strange intrigue, with characters that are equally beautiful and unnerving. So, the Metroidvania approach was probably a good call.

Players should get the chance to double back and better explore their surroundings, without losing the overall pace. This is better than racing through the narrative in one shot.

It also gives the world a chance to evolve, and its surreal nature would benefit from that.

The controls seem to offer plenty freedom of movement, and the Steam page even mentions a Grappling Gun. Players could get pretty creative with a tool like that.

The “move-and-reset system” sounds friendlier for newcomers to the genre. It should also make frenetic mobile gameplay easier to handle if you’re playing it on the go with the Nintendo Switch.
