Junkyard teamwork indie Tipston Salvage reveals official trailer

Tipston Salvage, a strategy co-op indie about managing junkyards from indie developer and publisher Pontus Karlsson, released its first official trailer last week.

In Tipston Salvage, 2 to 4 players must work together to operate various junkyards. You’ll need to call in junk, crush metal, and strategically pack the storage area. Fortunately, your vehicle is fitted with a special engine for rocket boosts, but communication is key.

Tipston Salvage is currently slated to launch in 2024, but the devs haven’t confirmed a concrete release date. It will be available on PC via Steam, with no word on plans for other platforms.

Surprisingly, I only just heard about Tipston Salvage, but I couldn’t pass by an opportunity to discuss it. I was immediately drawn to its cozy art design. Its world and vehicles have friendly, clay-like textures with excellent lighting and a great theme.

Tipston Salvage is a clever little answer to games like Overcooked and Moving Out. Its premise is perfectly suited for the same kind of controlled chaos, while offering a totally different flavor.

Judging by the trailer alone, Tipston Salvage already promises to make the most of its setting. The unique level design and tasks should add a lot to the central idea.

The official Steam page mentions that players will have a “Planning Phase at the start of each level”. There will also be a Leisure Mode, which turns off time limits. Challenges will range from “beginner friendly to extreme difficulty”.

So, it’s clear that Tipston Salvage is a bit friendlier than similar couch co-op games. I appreciate that there seems to be a distinct emphasis on strategy and coordination, rather than RNG and quick reflexes.

This appears to be the debut game from Pontus Karlsson, who previously worked on environment art for other titles. Those skills really shine in Tipston Salvage, adding tremendous personality.
