Action RPG Twins of Olus reveals new gameplay teaser

Indie developer and publisher Team Verdant released a new gameplay teaser today for Twins of Olus, an isometric action RPG. The trailer reveals a variety of mechanics, enemies, and stages.

In Twins of Olus, players control both a warrior and their spectral twin on a journey to save their world from destruction. You’ll need to swap between each twin and use their unique abilities, working together to survive. There are also trinkets to collect in order to upgrade your heroes.

Team Verdant has not confirmed a concrete release date for Twins of Olus. It will be available on PC via Steam, where you can wishlist now. There is currently no word on support for other platforms.

Today’s new teaser doesn’t reveal much about the narrative in Twins of Olus, nor does the Steam page. So, it’s unclear if the gameplay will even feature very much storytelling.

That would be a shame, because the imagery revealed thus far could invite some pretty neat lore.

I’m especially interested in the spiritual approach. For example, the Steam page adds that spectral bridges “harness the memories shared between the living and the dead”.

These bridges are one of many inventive elements for the worlds themselves. The stages are already impressive, not only for their creative details, but also for the dramatic lighting.

The textures look unusually crisp, with a flair for mysterious environments and dreamlike layouts. The Steam page also mentions that the day and night cycle will introduce “new paths as the sun sets”.

I was surprised by the music’s attitude, expecting to hear haunting piano instead of angry riffs. This angle could imply the game focuses on combat a bit more.

Twins of Olus looks remarkably polished on all fronts, especially for a two-person team. The game appears to be Team Verdant’s debut, and should make quite a statement.
