Adventure indie Hauntii is coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch

Hauntii, a hand-crafted adventure about ghosts from indie developer Moonloop Games and publisher Firestoke, will officially be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch according to a new post.

In Hauntii, players use ghostly powers to solve puzzles and battle strange enemies in the mysterious world of ‘Eternity’. This is a twin-stick shooter where you can also possess enemies and control the environment. Players must explore to find answers about Eternity and the hero’s past.

Hauntii does not have a concrete release date yet. The official Steam page does list a Q2 2024 release window, but this may not apply to consoles. Steam is also currently offering a playable demo.

Today’s Game Pass announcement also included a new gameplay trailer:

The art design in Hauntii’s trailers is downright hypnotic. I consistently find hand-drawn artwork appealing, but Hauntii’s otherworldly stages are truly inspired.

Hauntii clearly has a very distinct vision. Its levels have askew, surreal qualities without losing actual structure. Eternity feels like an unsettling place, yet also charming.

Atmosphere should play a large role in Hauntii, especially with a compelling, dynamic soundtrack from LightReturn. Like the gameplay itself, LightReturn’s music seems equally cryptic and playful.

However, the Steam page mentions that Hauntii plans to balance twin-stick shooting action with a casual pace. These naturally contrast each other.

I feel the puzzle elements seem more organic to Eternity than shooting. The possession abilities are a slick idea that could result in some very creative puzzles.

So, I am curious to see how the combat fits in. But it does look promising in the trailers thus far.

Hauntii appears to be Moonloop Games’ debut project. However, Firestoke has published a few indies like Bish Bash Bots, which I reviewed last October.

Hauntii should thrive on the Xbox Game Pass, where subscribers can be more open to such nifty little games.
