1v1 shooter Rounds sets Xbox release date, more ports planned

Developer and publisher Landfall has announced that Rounds, their hit roguelite shooter, is officially coming to Xbox on February 21st, 2024. You can pre-order the Xbox version now.

In Rounds, two players try to outgun each other over multiple escalating rounds. There are over 70 unique platforming stages, dozens of power-ups to combine, and objects to use. The game also supports either online or local multiplayer.

Rounds originally launched on PC via Steam in 2021. Landfall also revealed today that they will “update the PC version with achievements and the ability to invite your Xbox-playing buddies with room codes”.

More console ports are on the way, but Landfall did not confirm which platforms they’re aiming for. News on the next ports is coming “later this year”.

Fans will likely recognize Landfall for developing Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, which got its final content update just last month. Its wacky physics and colorful world created natural slapstick fun, and Rounds is equally inspired.

The sheer variety of power-ups and stages similarly give players a constant sense of surprise. There’s an inherent sense of humor in Rounds, with the attitude of a party game. It feels akin to classics like Gang Beasts or Worms.

In Rounds, the losing players gain surprising upgrades. So, battles can even out skill gaps, without getting too redundant.

Landfall has consistently proven they can pack a lot of personality into a very simple concept. The Xbox version of Rounds simply needs to run properly, and it should thrive.

The Xbox pre-order page also mentions co-op support, including both cross-platform and cross-gen multiplayer. That should make the game a lot more accessible.

Hopefully, Rounds will later join the Nintendo Switch, too. Its style aligns with the brand, with fast-paced and easygoing gameplay that would also play well on the go.
