Dreamsweeper, a blend of dungeon-crawling and Minesweeper from indie developer and publisher Etherlight, launches a new Kickstarter campaign on February 1st, 2024.
So, Etherlight has released a series of gameplay teasers on Twitter. Each teaser showcases a variety of different features and mechanics. Today’s new teaser shows four unique difficulty modes, for casual or expert gamers.
In Dreamsweeper, players must help a girl battle her anxieties when she falls asleep listening to music. You’ll need to solve classic Minesweeper puzzles and master rhythm based combat mechanics. There are also accessories and hidden collectibles to unlock.
Naturally, Dreamsweeper doesn’t currently have a release date yet. However, it’s expected to launch sometime this year. It will be available on PC via Steam, where you can try a playable demo and wishlist now.
I initially hesitated over this indie due to the influence of Minesweeper. However, the basic premise of Dreamsweeper has an excellent theme.
It has the potential to explore some meaningful, positive messages about overcoming anxiety. And the developer’s approach strongly emphasizes music. To the point that Steam credits lo-fi artist Oatmello as a co-developer.
I happen to be a longtime fan of lo-fi music, and I still regularly listen to Chillhop. So, I’m already familiar with the artist Oatmello, who has created some very memorable work.
Concentrating on any music as a force of relaxation and progress is always a friendly idea. So, it’s fortunate that the developer is working on different difficulty levels for Dreamsweeper.
Lo-fi is innately comforting, so it’d be strange if the game only provided serious challenges.
The pixel art is also gorgeous and atmospheric, with lots of purple and creativity. This is a carryover from Etherlight’s only other title, Mislight, a platformer released last year.
Etherlight is also based in Mexico, so I admit this is a welcome opportunity to give a shoutout to mi tierra.
