Hack-n-slash indie SuperSimmer reveals action-packed gameplay

SuperSimmer, a third-person action indie featuring bullet time from developer and publisher Zefram Games, has released a brief gameplay teaser today.

The teaser showcases performance improvements that the devs worked on over the holidays. This includes a bloody ballet of carnage and over a dozen apparent zombies.

In SuperSimmer, players must master tactical movement and combat in order to survive escalating waves of enemies. You’ll have to make tough decisions during bullet time. You can also choose between three unique heroes, including a ranged attacker.

SuperSimmer doesn’t have a release date yet, but you can currently wishlist the game under its former title Super1337 on PC via Steam.

SuperSimmer is clearly a profoundly gory game, with a very simple premise. In fact, its arcade approach might actually benefit more from a VR experience.

However, the movement revealed in SuperSimmer’s trailers already looks impressively smooth. The fluidity of the animation, momentum, and agility is instantly attractive.

The bullet time doesn’t just seem like a gimmick, but a tool to reduce visual noise and introduce strategy. It also helps capture all of the smaller animated reactions, from lost limbs to strands of hair.

So, you can freely assess your surroundings, and Zack Snyder fans will undoubtedly revel in the slow-motion shots. Since the devs are aiming for “100 simulated enemies on screen at once”, the visuals play a large role in enjoying the game.

There doesn’t appear to be much of a story, which is a shame, and it could result in a short game.

But the genre occasionally survives without much story, similar to beat ’em ups. And SuperSimmer certainly has plenty of style. If it can muster enough gameplay variety, fans of games like Sifu or Trepang2 might be pleased.

SuperSimmer appears to be the debut title from developer Zefram Games.
