Metroidvania Fusion event announced for March 2024 with trailer

Ravenage Games, the publisher behind Mega City Police and other indies, will present a digital festival celebrating metroidvania games between March 4th and March 11th, 2024.

The event is called Metroidvania Fusion, and you’ll be able to watch it on Steam. Expansions to other platforms have not been confirmed, nor ruled out.

According to the official FAQ, the event will feature “a showcase, discounts, and amazing announcements”.

This implies that release dates, entirely new games, and more could be revealed. Today’s new teaser for Metroidvania Fusion teases games like Pepper Grinder, Gunbrella, and more.

Developers now have the chance to submit their metroidvania for entry, too. The deadline for signing up is February 1st, 2024.

There appears to be a particular interest for innovative titles. Although metroidvania games are already a fairly niche genre, it benefits from a clever twist like anything else.

The definition of a “metroidvania” can be a little loose. But it generally involves a platforming world with locked areas, which you can only access by gaining new abilities or items.

I’ve covered a quite a few metroidvanias lately, including the stark Biomorph arriving Q1 2024, or the self-aware comedy The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest. Clearly, the genre has tremendous range.

On a personal level, I really connected with Mariachi Legends, which was inspired by Mexican folklore and launched a Kickstarter last November.

These titles may very well turn up for the festival, perhaps with new teasers and concrete release dates.

The new year is quickly approaching, so confirming launch dates or supported platforms would be appropriate news for the festival.

Ravenage Games has published a variety of indies. Although some thrived more than others, they often take risks.

Metroidvania Fusion will surely give some overlooked gems a proper audience. But I also hope to discover something new and unexpected.
