The Gravity Trickster launches PS5 port this week

The Gravity Trickster, a 3D puzzle platformer from indie developer and publisher Szilard Papp, will be ported to PlayStation 5 on December 22nd, 2023.

It originally launched last July for the PlayStation 4, and owners who already have that version can upgrade for free.

In The Gravity Trickster, players must think in multiple dimensions to survive a series of dangerous retro-styled 3D areas. There are also a variety of collectibles to unlock, including cosmetics, bonus levels, and even entirely new stage themes.

The Gravity Trickster was featured on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, today:

The Gravity Trickster remains a PlayStation exclusive at this time, and was partly overlooked earlier this year. However, reviews have largely been positive. I haven’t played the game, but today’s trailer does have my attention.

I was happily surprised by the old school PlayStation 1 art design. The trailer showcases vague, open landscapes and retro blocks that are gorgeously imperfect.

Combined with the music, The Gravity Trickster looks quite nostalgic. Even the robotic hero is sort of an old-fashioned notion of what future technology could become.

The gameplay and tone appear to aim for something cozy, almost meditative.

However, the PlayStation product page mentions a “No Stress” mode. So, there should be tougher options for puzzle fans who prefer something more challenging.

The Gravity Trickster probably doesn’t demand those fancy PlayStation 5 enhancements. Its ideas and visuals are smaller in scope.

Still, the game looks quite charming, and there promises to be a decent amount of content.

The “Dark Mode” in today’s trailer is even more striking than the default imagery. So, it’s a shame it has to be unlocked later on. But it may be more challenging to complete.

You can try the playable demo of The Gravity Trickster on the PlayStation store ahead of the PlayStation 5 launch.
