Restaurant management and cooking roguelite PlateUp! from developer It’s happening will officially be ported to consoles on February 15th, 2024. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. This includes both current and last-gen consoles.
In PlateUp!, players will need to strategically design and upgrade their own restaurant. You can invest in new equipment and customize your kitchen. Between restaurant updates, you’ll also work to prepare and serve meals to your customers, akin to Overcooked.
Publisher Yogscast Games announced the console release date in a new tweet, which includes a brief teaser:
PlateUp! originally launched onto Steam in August 2022. It’s currently on sale today via Steam, where you can also try a demo ahead of the console release. On PC, it’s continued to retain overwhelmingly positive reviews.
Its gameplay loop is very different from Overcooked, though it does feature similar cooking chaos. It’s far more of an elaboration than a clone, with unique features like procedural generation.
Players have the opportunity to automate and optimize their own kitchen. There are also plenty of customization options to browse. PlateUp! allows you to actually pace yourself.
Rather than presenting players with puzzling stages to master, PlateUp! has a bigger focus on letting you gradually develop your own strategies. You can sort of fail forward and still win, thanks to its depth and roguelite elements.
So, PlateUp! gameplay should translate well onto consoles, even if you plan on a mobile Switch experience.
Supporting last-gen consoles is a really nice gesture, since PlateUp! really benefits from thoughtful collaboration. Besides, the visuals don’t quite demand next-gen tech, anyway.
Hopefully, the console release will expand PlateUp!’s audience, since PC gaming is a bit niche. It may even turn up on subscription services like the Xbox Game Pass, where it would certainly thrive.
