Rising Lords, a turn-based strategy game with tabletop elements and a medieval theme, will officially launch on January 18th, 2024, according to a new tweet. It will be available on PC via Steam, the Nintendo Switch, and Xbox.
In Rising Lords, players must build and manage a medieval city, expanding and forming relationships with other Lords. Battles are played out through turn-based encounters, considering your morale, terrain, and more. There is also support for multiplayer and modding.
Rising Lords is currently available in Early Access on Steam, where you can also try a demo. The game has been in Early Access since May 2020, and the full version releasing in January will feature even more content.
Here’s the full release date announcement from developer Argonwood:
Rising Lords doesn’t boast the novelty of Inkulinati, another medieval turn-based strategy game. But Rising Lords is still a polished and ambitious indie, with some nice twists and a notable amount of content.
Its charming art design is very thematic, and also borrows from a tabletop aesthetic. Naturally, I find that very appealing.
It even seems to capture tabletop fluidity, textures, and RNG. But it also does enough to justify its medium, as in the simultaneous multiplayer gameplay.
The official Steam page mentions a good variety of modes and tactical mechanics. I enjoy the emphasis on relationships, particularly between Lords and the kingdom itself.
I also appreciate the opportunity to customize, which in this context is similar to painting your miniatures. And mod support is always a terrific way to engage the community and add replay value.
Rising Lords’ sheer flexibility has really captured my attention, both in its gameplay and features. Those freedoms are likely going to go a long way for fans of the genre. With so many years of distinct care and effort, I hope the devs are rewarded.
