Europa, an exploration adventure game from indie developer Helder Pinto and publisher Future Friends Games, will officially launch on April 16th, 2024, according to a new gameplay trailer. It also revealed a variety of environments, abilities, and more.
In Europa, small android Zee journeys through utopian ruins on the titular moon of Jupiter, which was terraformed for humans. You must uncover a variety of secrets about the world and the last living human. Although Europa is peaceful, there are also some puzzles and dangers to overcome.
Europa will be available on PC via Steam, where you can try a playable demo now. There’s currently no word on ports for other platforms. The full trailer was uploaded on the game’s official YouTube channel:
Europa is likely to conjure images of Zelda with its vast, bright natural landscapes and serene music. Despite its apparently tragic premise, there’s a cozy, patient and peaceful tone to today’s trailer.
There is also a dreamlike quality, especially with the compelling movement system. It looks both flexible and easy to pick up.
The Zephyr jetpack should prove to be a nice solution for traversing large areas. The ebb and flow of the movement abilities and their animation seem light as a feather.
All of these components are a natural fit for the perspective of such an innocent protagonist.
Europa certainly promises plenty of wholesomeness, but there seems to be hidden poignancy. Besides the ruins themselves, there’s a touch of loneliness in the hero’s path. If so, hopefully the developer is able to balance those elements naturally.
Europa has incredible potential, with a gorgeous art design and spirit of freedom.
It also appears to be one piece of a very particular lineup from publisher Future Friends Games. They have a few other indies coming soon, which are similarly charming and innovative.
