Roguelike indie Little Scavenger reveals gameplay, demo coming soon

Little Scavenger, a roguelike adventure about robots from indie developer and publisher CodeRed Studio, released new gameplay footage today. It showcases an uninterrupted run with various enemies, weapons, and more.

In Little Scavenger, players must explore a kingdom full of corrupted robots in search of answers. You’ll have to discover superior armor, trinkets, and weapons to avoid permanent death. You may also need to rescue NPCs on your journey.

Little Scavenger does not currently have a release date. It will be available on Steam, though no other platforms have been confirmed. In an announcement tweet from last week, the developer also revealed that a public demo is coming soon.

Here is today’s gameplay from the official CodeRed YouTube channel:

Little Scavenger is one of countless indie roguelikes. However, it caught my attention with its charm. Though isometric, its retro visuals are both nostalgic and original.

The imagery has its own personality, instead of indulging pure homage, like so many others. There’s some solid pixel art and good characterization. The sound effects and music are also very effective.

In fact, Little Scavenger’s overall theme is fun. It combines familiar RPG fantasy elements with a robotic world, and I find that contrast interesting.

Altogether, these traits make Little Scavenger seem rather cozy, though permadeath will surely have players on edge.

Some of the game’s fundamentals have seemed a bit conventional. So, I appreciate that the dev is beginning to share more gameplay. It’s revealing a variety of smaller details that stand out.

For example, rolling a giant die really appeals to a TTG fan like me. The weapons also look neat, with some great animations. The Steam page also mentions you’ll be “rescuing NPCs”, which is intriguing and opens a lot of narrative opportunities.

Hopefully, the public demo helps distinguish this one, and earns it some traction.
