Unmatched, the strategic miniature and card game from publisher Restoration Games, will add characters from The Witcher universe in 2024. The news was announced via a new tweet from Restoration Games’ official feed.
The accompanying blog post mentions there will be two sets, titled “Steel and Silver” and “Realms Fall”. They will feature three heroes apiece, including Geralt of Rivia, Ciri, and more. Restoration Games partnered with CD Projekt Red for the collaboration.
A concrete release date was not confirmed, but the sets are expected sometime “later in 2024”. While this vague answer might concern some fans, it’s a welcome surprise that The Witcher will get two dedicated sets.
There are certainly more than enough intriguing characters in the world of The Witcher. In fact, it’s also getting a narrative-driven tabletop adaptation next year with The Witcher: Path Of Destiny.
These characters each have easily distinguishable skills, thanks to the freedom and ingenuity of their fantasy world.
This allows them to support an entire deck of themed cards without too much overlap with previous characters.
There have been so many superhero crossovers with Unmatched that The Witcher should be a nice change of pace. In fact, it opens the door to similar types of IP. But ideally, it just signals an interest in more variety.
It’ll also be interesting to see how the miniatures in Unmatched will compare to other The Witcher board games. Unmatched is renowned for its detailed, high-quality figures.
Unmatched also recently introduced the cooperative Tales to Amaze (LBR review coming soon!). This means that players can form alliances as seen in the show too. You can also freely pit Geralt against aliens or the Mothman, like you always wanted.
The upcoming Witcher sets will also include “two unique battlefields” apiece. Fans are left to speculate on which iconic locations might appear, though some feel more obligatory than others.
