Adventure creator MindVenture teases cute costumes in latest clip

MindVenture, a cozy adventure and level creator from indie developer and publisher Vhalenn, released a brief new gameplay clip today revealing the new costume mechanics via Twitter.

The official feed has showcased a variety of different mechanics and ideas, from prospective puzzles to ancient relics. Here is today’s costume update:

In MindVenture, players will explore various islands, helping others after a mysterious catastrophe fractured their world. You’ll need to build effective bases and a reliable team of explorers to venture far enough to find your answers. Players can also create and share their own levels.

MindVenture hasn’t confirmed a release date yet, but you can wishlist on Steam now. For a full idea of the actual gameplay, you can also revisit the trailer from last June on the Vhalenn YouTube channel:

MindVenture’s trailers will instantly charm you. The bright, upbeat tone permeates everything from its delightful optimism to its relaxing art design and music. However, many indies successfully rely on their cute aesthetic alone.

It intrigues me that although MindVenture is distinctly built on its own lore, there’s also a great emphasis on its level creator. The editor looks unexpectedly flexible for an indie game.

Fortunately, the canvas seems inviting and inspiring enough to sustain it. I am very curious to learn about the actual limits of building your own island in MindVenture. The Steam page teases that players can write their own dialogue and quests, drop in characters, and more.

The focal point of this game encourages you to share creations, reinforcing a message of unity. In fact, it surprises me that with such a social approach, MindVenture is only a single-player experience. It would have benefited from local or online co-op.

However, I’m still invested in this curious little world, and I’ll be keeping an eye on the Twitter feed for other teasers.
