Grav1ty, a pixel art sci-fi platformer from indie developer and publisher Eduardo M Machado, has just released an official Steam page today. It includes a variety of details that set up the premise and explain key gameplay mechanics.
In Grav1ty, you are an astronaut in search of a missing crew while pursuing the secrets of the universe. You will need to solve puzzles, collect upgrades, and contend with dangerous enemies in a variety of open world planets.
Grav1ty does not currently have a release date. There’s also no word on support for other platforms. Although an official trailer hasn’t been revealed, many gameplay clips have been shared on the corresponding Twitter account. Here is today’s Steam announcement from the official feed:
Although Grav1ty’s premise should sound familiar for sci-fi fans, the elaborations in today’s Steam page are encouraging. The references to ancient guardians, and the attention to detail, show a lot of potential. Gameplay that has been revealed via Twitter does promise a thoughtful world.
The emphasis on environmental influence is really neat, especially with the fauna. The cute enemy design and their unique behavior should make exploration more of a delight than a chore. I’m very curious to see how each planet affects their puzzles.
The creativity in Grav1ty’s smaller details are what intrigued me the most. They give the impression that each open world is filled with meaningful content, rather than serving as a pretty backdrop alone.
That could result in some better pacing than comparable open world games, especially combined with the jetpack system.
Although Grav1ty’s plot sounds quite mysterious and dangerous, the adorable pixel art hints at a more playful world and casual gameplay. There are odd, somewhat silly little creatures, and settings that indulge strangeness. Overall, Grav1ty seems to be rather quirky, to its benefit, with lots of carefree imagination.
