Celestial Empire, a survival city builder from President Studio based on Chinese lands and mythology, has revealed several images of a sprawling new map. This map is designed to challenge players, with winding rivers that limit access and construction.
In Celestial Empire, you are a provincial governor assigned by the Emperor to build and protect the city. Like many city builders, you’ll have to manage supply chains, trade with other settlements, and survive harsh seasons. However, you will also have to earn the will of the gods, and demons may spread fear throughout the people.
Celestial Empire doesn’t have a release date, but it’s expected to launch in “early 2024” according to a recent tweet from last week. Here is one of the new map images, as seen in the new update on Celestial Empire’s official Steam page:

For a look at the central gameplay, you can also revisit the official trailer from last February on the President Studio YouTube channel:
Celestial Empire may have some familiar city building mechanics, but the devs wisely selected a naturally interesting setting. The influence of ancient Chinese locations, architecture, and culture are fascinating to behold.
The official trailer surprised and delighted me with brief glimpses of martial arts and unique mythology. That small hint of personality will go a long way in distinguishing Celestial Empire.
Its nuanced fantasy elements are also intriguing, with intricate and gorgeous statutes. I am very curious about the potential demons.
The Steam page also mentions some smaller details. Players will need to consider which plot of land is best for food production. And there is an emphasis on the people, who may become afraid or unhappy.
While I didn’t participate in playtests or the demo, I’m optimistic about Celestial Empire. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, and the setting has extraordinary promise.
