System Era Softworks, the brilliant developer and publisher behind sci-fi adventure indie Astroneer, has announced plans today to join Devolver Digital according to a new official blog. System Era will be considered a first party studio.
Today’s announcement blog also mentions that System Era will continue work on Astroneer, with “a whole roadmap for 2024 updates” in place. However, there are also plans for “something new and exciting”.
Astroneer is a space exploration game from 2016 with a poly art design, base building, and science-driven technology. You can watch a new teaser trailer for the big partnership between System Era and Devolver Digital on the official Astroneer YouTube channel:
Astroneer, simply put, is one of my favorite games of all time. I adore its theme, which blends scientific discovery, casual adventure and cosmic mystery. I also appreciate its many freedoms, which have only expanded over the years.
I have been very impressed with just how long System Era has remained committed to Astroneer. There have been consistent, justified updates that smoothed things out and demonstrated just as much imagination as launch.
As long as that vision and dedication will be nurtured and supported properly, System Era will continue to be an indie force to be reckoned with.
So, I feel optimistic about the introduction of Devolver Digital. They have a fun, forthright sense of humor, and frequently champion titles with risks.
Cult of the Lamb is an obvious standout, but their range is impressive. For example, Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is a remarkable hidden gem Devolver published earlier this year. It blends existential and personal themes with a foundation of tarot cards.
In other words, it seems like teams are free to truly be themselves with Devolver Digital. Wherever System Era and Astroneer go, I’m sure to follow, so I look forward to further details about their “new ambitions”.
