Cozy Stone Age sim Roots of Pacha sets November release for PS and Switch

Roots of Pacha, an indie life and farming sim set in the Stone Age from developer and publisher Soda Den, will officially be ported to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation on November 28th, 2023. That includes both last and current-gen PlayStation consoles. The console ports will also be accompanied by the 1.1 update.

In Roots of Pacha, players build and support a Stone Age village, by exploring the environment and developing early technology. In addition to farming or making your home, you can discover and tame wildlife of the time, meet and romance unique villagers, and more.

Roots of Pacha originally launched on PC last April. An Xbox version is also planned for 2024, according to a recent tweet. You can watch the new console announcement trailer on the game’s official YouTube channel:

The primitive Stone Age setting is ripe for dire hardship and ferocious fauna. So, Roots of Pacha is certain to surprise newcomers with its tame and cozy gameplay, which doesn’t feature combat at all. It’s refreshing, when so many other games have already taken the obligatory approach.

Roots of Pacha has an adorable art design and a casual loop that thrives on the thrill of discovery. There’s an astonishing breadth of content, and it’s thematic enough to maintain a sense of wonder. For most, this will likely balance out the missing dungeon crawls from Stardew Valley, which clearly influenced Pacha.

Update 1.1 will add even more content. The new trailer is more of a broad gameplay overview, while the Steam page has listed the upcoming update’s finer details. The range of additions is impressive, from cosmetics to quality of life.

Roots of Pacha is such a friendly game that it deserves the new console ports. It’s a shame the Xbox version is running late, but a smooth launch is always worthwhile. Co-op fans should definitely keep an eye on these console ports.
