Pixel Art indie Spirit Of Meda sets November launch for Kickstarter campaign

Spirit of Meda, an exploration adventure game from indie developer and publisher Broadleaf Digital, will officially launch a Kickstarter campaign on November 7th, 2023.

In Spirit of Meda, players will explore a vast, original world at their own pace and make decisions that alter the journey. You are a Traveller, choosing who to interact with and how to approach them. There is a touch of fantasy, with many quests to discover and items to craft.

Naturally, Spirit of Meda does not have a release window yet. But you can watch the Kickstarter announcement on Broadleaf Digital’s YouTube channel, which includes both narration and gameplay:

Spirit of Meda makes an excellent impression with the quiet, patient tone in the full trailer, which is available on the game’s official Steam page. It doesn’t contain the narration, so you can get a better idea of Meda’s intended tone.

The music is serene and slow, which helps reinforce the scope of its world and the freedoms within. The pixel art itself is certainly arresting, but I was immediately struck by the cinematic qualities. The framing and clever camerawork do a fantastic job of selling the appeal and personality of Meda.

It’s noticeable that Meda feels vast enough to accommodate a variety of environments and people. Each town looks lived-in and unique, encouraging you to discover who they are, how they live, and the potential interactions.

These are important details, since Meda could potentially feel a bit generic. It seems to have some familiar adventure tropes, but also tremendous style.

I’m excited to catch a glimpse of some dialogue, and get a better sense of the consequences and relationships that could form through player choices. Fortunately, the new Kickstarter page is almost certain to provide essential details. So, be sure to keep an eye on the pre-launch Kickstarter page.
