The Witcher board game campaign Fully Funded in Under 5 Minutes

The Witcher: Path Of Destiny, a story-driven and competitive board game based on the popular fantasy franchise, has fully funded its official Gamefound campaign mere minutes after it launched today.

In The Witcher: Path Of Destiny, players assume the role of popular characters from the franchise such as Geralt, Yennefer, and more. You’ll play through familiar storylines that are affected by your decisions, while drafting and playing cards. Players compete for victory points, but a solo mode is also available.

A gameplay trailer was released to coincide with the new campaign, which you can watch on developer Go On Board’s YouTube channel:

Any tabletop representation of The Witcher was certain to succeed, but Path of Destiny seems to wield a healthy combination of fan service and novelties alike.

The gameplay smartly takes a story-driven approach, and appears to capture the scope of The Witcher’s fantasy world without becoming too cumbersome. While decision-based storytelling is commonplace for replay value these days, it’s an important part of the moral ambiguity in The Witcher.

This may be the most appropriate setting yet for heroes to actively compete with each other while completing a story together, something I typically find odd, as in certain superhero TTGs.

The art design is immediately striking, faithful enough to please fans and stylized enough to capitalize on the tabletop medium. The components look very detailed, so anyone who is still unfamiliar with the IP can likely appreciate its flavor and intrigue.

The miniatures look fantastic, with excellent likeness and energy. The play area feels stark, but never boring, with streaking colors and imitated age for ample table presence. This is an important aspect of the game, because The Witcher already has popular video game counterparts that set a high bar for adaptation.

Overall, Path of Destiny looks like a promising, tightly woven blend of strategy and action.
