Car Skating indie Flex Riders reveals new gameplay footage

Flex Riders, an indie racing and combat game about skating with cars from developer Sharuu, has a very brief new glimpse at in-progress gameplay. It was revealed in a new tweet, following months of silence on the account. Previously, there have been a variety of work-in-progress updates showing off other key mechanics.

In Flex Riders, players compete in a blend of skating and car racing. You can perform tricks, grind rails, and rocket jump, but you’ll still be able to use traditional mechanics like drifting. According to a tweet from May, the game will also support online multiplayer.

Flex Riders does not have a release window yet, but it’s expected to launch on Steam, as noted on @SharuuDev’s Twitter bio. Here’s the full tweet with new gameplay footage that was released today:

There’s a playful spark of ingenuity with Flex Riders. The premise is like a fun twist on the likes of You Suck at Parking.

The physics seems very tidy, with a good sense of weight and momentum. The range of tricks is already impressive, too. There are so many intriguing, arcade-style embellishments in Flex Riders’ current state.

The action looks zany, fast-paced, and almost akin to a party game. I’d like to know just how much synergy the skating and racing will have. This might include how certain tricks could refresh abilities, and so forth.

The level design is promising, with courses that smartly balance outlandish environments with familiar obstacles and roads. There’s a lot of potential for mayhem with online multiplayer, but it’s an ambitious pursuit, so hopefully it functions properly.

There doesn’t seem to be a confirmed soundtrack thus far, and music plays a large role in sports games. But Flex Riders should inspire some really neat sounds. It has a clever hook that’s flexible enough for some very exciting content.
