ReUpRise, a platformer set on an abstract space station from indie developer and publisher Noline, has released a new gameplay trailer on the official Steam page. While it isn’t an ordinary gameplay or story breakdown, it does show highlights of various mechanics and obstacles.
In ReUpRise, players must repair a malfunctioning space station by leading a ball through crucial systems. You’ll have to overcome a series of platforming obstacles by rolling, bouncing and more. As you progress higher through the station, you earn upgrades, but you also risk larger falls.
ReUpRise has not confirmed a release date or window. Solo developer Livinskii Aleksandr, who is based in Montenegro, also posted the new Steam trailer in an official tweet:
Abstract settings and obstacles are becoming quite popular, but the new trailer for ReUpRise held my attention with compelling physics, sounds, and general atmosphere.
Even in a brief trailer, it’s clear that a lot of effort went into movement. It consistently captures a real sense of weight and motion, which goes a long way in platformers.
I can only speculate for now, so hopefully it’ll also feel that way when you actually play it. With proper movement, you’re allowed to become more precise, and plan your paths more effectively.
I was happily surprised by the retro music and sound effects. They are certainly a fit for the geometric level design, which harkens back to old school games. Most devs would have simply leaned towards a synth soundtrack for the world of ReUpRise, these days.
Ideally, ReUpRise will be able to balance out the arcade simplicity of its premise and visuals with the modern mechanics. I think the “ZeroDrop” ability that lets you shoot straight down is neat, and opens up a lot of maneuvers. ReUpRise seems challenging, but not impossible, which is a sweet spot for platforming fans.
