Pixel platformer Bzzzt sets November release date

Bzzzt, a retro precision platformer about a tiny robot from solo developer Karel Matejka, will officially launch on November 13th, 2023, according to a new announcement trailer. Karel Matejka also goes by KO.DLL.

In Bzzzt, the little robot ZX8000 sets out on a journey to save the world from the evil mad scientist, Badbert. Players will need to advance through platforming stages that each introduce new mechanics and bosses. There will be different difficulty levels, time challenges, and more.

Bzzzt will be available on PC via GOG, the Epic Games Store, and Steam. You can watch today’s release date trailer on the developer’s official YouTube channel here:

Bzzzt is another cute nod to retro platforming games, an area that seems busier than ever. But the friendly approach, modern sensibilities and standout character design of Bzzzt will likely interest fans of this style.

To begin with, Bzzzt will be accessible to a wider range of gamers thanks to its difficulty options. This is a simple feature that is rarer than you might think. So many other platformers simply aim for the highest difficulty possible as a point of pride, and some even do it to squeeze more content out of the game.

Bzzzt’s new trailer definitely showcases a traditional sci-fi world. But the hero and their enemies look creative and adorable. This indie’s sense of wit and charm shouldn’t go underestimated.

I really appreciate the humor in Bzzzt’s trailer, and I hope it’s woven throughout the rest of the gameplay. It promises a playful tone from the colorful neon stages, storytelling, some energetic music, and even the game’s title.

Some of the action in Bzzzt’s existing trailers feels a little generic. But it’s too early to judge, and the if the movement turns out as smooth and responsive as it looks, that would make a big difference.
