Alpha Particle, an upcoming sci-fi action indie from developer and publisher Function Unknown, is officially coming to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It will be available this November, but an exact release date wasn’t confirmed.
In Alpha Particle, players are a new particle life form, which must survive through a range of unique space stations. Players will need to contend with enemies without using combat, and complete some light puzzle solving.
Alpha Particle originally launched in 2021 and is available now on PC. You can watch today’s trailer for the upcoming console version in a new Twitter post from Function Unknown:
Alpha Particle’s new trailer showcases a compelling blend of retro and modern visuals. It has old school backgrounds, but also clean particle effects, and what appears to be some very smooth movement.
I was surprised to discover that Alpha Particle launched so quietly a couple of years ago. I’m delighted to see that its console release will reach all major platforms, which should definitely grab some attention.
Alpha Particle will likely thrive on the Nintendo Switch, thanks to its streamlined gameplay. Hopefully, the controls will feel intuitive on other platforms.
According to the official Steam page, Alpha Particle will have players manage life as a resource for speed boosting. This is a nice little twist on a familiar concept, and adds to the survival elements of the story.
Players are encouraged to think critically, as you are vulnerable and can’t simply gun down your enemies. Instead, you’ll need to outwit the enemy, which is always a welcome change of pace.
Alpha Particle has cosmic themes and worlds that help create a sense of mystery, reinforced by some terrific music in today’s trailer. I enjoy praising standout music, and Alpha Particle’s upbeat and quirky sounds are very catchy.
