Fantasy adventure TTG Dragon Eclipse launches Gamefound campaign with trailer

Dragon Eclipse, a narrative-driven card game for 1-2 players about elemental Mystlings, has officially launched its Gamefound campaign today. The game is published by Awaken Realms, best known for the space horror classic Nemesis. As expected, the Gamefound campaign was fully funded in mere minutes.

In Dragon Eclipse, players will discover a variety of Mystlings, completing unique quests and building decks for each of them. There is a decision-driven campaign adventure that supports co-op, as well as competitive modes to lean into TCG/CCG influences.

According to the official FAQ section on Gamefound, fans might expect “fulfillment of the English wave to start in September 2024”. You can watch today’s official campaign trailer on the Awaken Realms YouTube channel:

Conceptually, Dragon Eclipse distinctly borrows from classic monster taming video games, which generally include a story but thrive on the thrill of discovery and creature bonding.

It’s hard to avoid reiterating previous comparisons to Pokémon. But more specifically, Dragon Eclipse has cleverly combined the card battling from Pokémon’s TCG and the adventure of its flagship video game series.

For example, in Pokémon, players collect and raise monsters on an epic journey, but they can still continue to seek out new monsters and pit them against other trainers in endgame.

The competitive angle of Dragon Eclipse offers the same incentive, and it will help distinguish it from the likes of Marvel Champions, which similarly offers expansions with preset cards and new stories.

Dragon Eclipse’s 12-scenario campaign will likely please RPG enthusiasts. It has compelling lore, and truly imaginative character design. Also, when players can make decisions and face the consequences together, it really sells immersion and cooperation.

Dragon Eclipse offers some catchy gameplay twists, but the visuals are also outstanding. Like Nemesis, the art design and miniatures are so impressive. These are valuable and appealing enough on their own. The Mystlings are detailed and present unique personalities that are fueled by worldbuilding.

The Gamefound page mentions there are plans to nurture and evolve Dragon Eclipse, and I’m already equally dedicated to the long haul.
