Farm Folks, an open world solarpunk-themed farming and life sim from developer and publisher Crytivo, has released a new gameplay and behind-the-scenes trailer for the town of Port Solaris.
In Farm Folks, players will explore unique islands inspired by Italy, build and customize a farm with automated systems, complete quests, and meet a variety of interesting NPCs. The game also supports co-op.
Farm Folks has not confirmed an exact release date yet, but a Kickstarter campaign is on the way. You can watch today’s Port Solaris trailer on the official Farm Folks YouTube channel:
There are already a myriad of friendly farming sims, and they continue to grow with the likes of Palia. These games share many of the same obligatory mechanics, but Farm Folks has some neat twists.
Solarpunk is a natural fit for a world inspired by Italy. Today’s trailer shows off just how colorful and cozy the coastal town of Port Solaris will be. Also, there’s already an incredible sense of culture and community.
Ideally, these traits will be elaborated on throughout the game, particularly in distinguishing the islands from each other. For those who haven’t invested in Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy yet, playing Farm Folks will likely convince you.
Farm Folks will also offer dozens of seasonal crops, familiar animals, and romanceable NPCs. The farming mechanics seem weirdly natural, from tossing seeds to using the right fertilizer.
Surprisingly, Farm Folks is also willing to embrace strangeness of a different sort. Instead of some traditional fantasy fare, a series of updates on Farm Folks’ Steam news hub have mentioned a playful “Dino Crisis Mode” with a “Skull Island”, no less.
Farm Folks’ visuals are gorgeous, almost akin to claymation, and there’s so much room for the content to grow and experiment. These life sims are often easy to overlook, but I’ll keep an eye on this one.
