Simulakros, a third-person shooter about robots from indie developer Sirio Games and publisher PID Games, has just released its first official teaser trailer. It features a brief gameplay overview with glimpses of the world, basic mechanics, abilities, and more.
In Simulakros, players aim to take down the world’s largest corporation with their own Simulakros Units. You’ll need to use upgrades and power-ups to survive randomly generated runs, destroying the evil CORP from within.
Simulakros has not confirmed a release date yet. It will be available on PC via Steam, with no word on other platforms. You can watch the full teaser in a new post from PID Games’ official Twitter feed:
Simulakros boasts some very polished graphics and movement, which are both central components for any title, let alone shooters. Melee attacks and even basic running seem to have a distinct weight and finer details in today’s footage.
Hopefully, the controls will feel that way, too. They’ll need to be very responsive to keep up with the emphasis on speed.
The level design has a very corporate, modern industrial look without overindulging the innate soullessness that one would expect. That’s largely due to the AI theme, which comes through well.
The laser trap glimpsed in today’s teaser hints at some very interesting potential, though it does seem like there will be more enemies than obstacles. It’d be nice for these aspects to balance out, though levels will be randomly generated.
There are also a variety of weapons to master, so the three different Simulakros Units should feel pretty distinct. The Steam page mentions they will each have “unique weapons, skills and power-ups”.
Overall, Simulakros doesn’t currently promise much gameplay novelty. But it does hint at a rewarding and smooth shooter experience, with lots of attitude and atmosphere. Simulakros definitely has an incredible soundtrack in the new teaser.
