Story-driven thriller “The Heirloom” teases QTEs, Kickstarter coming soon

The Heirloom, a story-driven adventure thriller with puzzle elements from developer Babubi Games, has a new tweet teasing that players will face Quick-Time Events and tough decisions throughout the game.

In the same thread, the devs confirm that the anticipated Kickstarter campaign is coming “Very, very, VERY SOON”.

In The Heirloom, Marla and her younger brother Jack are orphaned after tragic events and end up in their grandfather’s mysterious old lighthouse, where they must uncover the secret behind strange and frightening events.

Naturally, The Heirloom doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected in 2024. There are plans to release it on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and even mobile devices. Here’s the full tweet about QTE’s:

Babubi Games was freshly founded in 2022 by just two developers (and one cat), so they’re a considerably small team and haven’t any titles for reference.

An official gameplay trailer for The Heirloom hasn’t been released yet either, though artwork has been revealed throughout development. The art design for the environments is very dramatic, capturing a sense of gloom and tension, while the heroes are brighter and friendlier.

It’s unclear how much the tragedy in the premise will permeate the story, but it’s certainly loaded, and somewhat resembles a classic ghost story.

There’s a major opportunity to discuss grief, isolation, and other themes about the human condition. The Kickstarter page has a statement from the devs, that their “mission is to create a meaningful and impressive gaming experience”.

Today’s cryptic answer about the Kickstarter launch implies it will arrive sooner than expected, which is a delight.

Surprisingly, interested gamers who invest in the Kickstarter can get their hands on a limited Collector’s Edition. It’s full of catchy collectibles that you would find in any comparable AAA release, as seen in this tweet from last week:
