BlackMill Games, the team behind indie shooters Verdun, Tannenberg, and Isonzo, officially has a new website. While the site doesn’t seem to offer news or updates, it’s a stylish place to learn more about the team, contact them, or even join them.
Each of BlackMill Games’ tactical first-person shooters boast exhaustive efforts to represent historically accurate multiplayer battles in a World War I setting. This ambition only expands as the series goes on, from weapons and uniforms to the maps themselves.
Here’s the official website announcement tweet from BlackMill Games’ feed:
While every game in BlackMill Games’ WWI series has had mixed reviews from critics, the fanbase continues to maintain a positive reception on Steam. They’re snappy and accessible games, and most drawbacks involve the technical side of things.
Isonzo, the most recent installment, launched in September 2022 and is available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. You can watch the free Grappa Update trailer on the WW1 Game Series’ official YouTube channel:
There are obvious AAA counterparts for World War shooters. And there’s certainly plenty of competition that aims for historical authenticity, in a variety of genres.
However, BlackMill Games has distinguished itself with swift pacing, fine details, and risky ingenuity. Each sequel managed to retain the atmosphere that made their predecessors successful, while adding inventive new modes and mechanics that legitimately pay attention to the obscure.
The sights, sounds, and tactics are both unconventional and unapologetic, leaning into what distinguished WWI itself. The flare system, crucial terrain interactions, and poison gas are strong examples of the imaginative twists in these shooters.
Content is also added so regularly, the devs seem as passionate about exploring this era as the fans. There’s an established sense of trust thanks to continued support and communication, and today’s new site feels like an extension of that.
