Saga of Sins team reveals prototype trailer for “HeartWarming” adventure

HeartWarming, an upcoming action-adventure indie from Saga of Sins developer Bonus Level Entertainment, has revealed a prototype teaser. While it doesn’t show off the final look of the game, there are glimpses of the world, characters, key mechanics and music.

In HeartWarming, a meteor shower sends a Lynx and Penguin on a “humorous adventure” to rescue their world, using the power to alter water, ice, and snow.

Naturally, HeartWarming hasn’t confirmed a release date or supported platforms yet. According to a tweet posted today, the devs are starting publisher pitches. You can watch today’s new teaser trailer on the Bonus Level Entertainment YouTube channel:

The devs’ previous game Saga of Sins had an inspired premise, and an impeccable stained glass art design. But its animation and simplicity were a little divisive, and that may yet trouble HeartWarming.

Still, today’s teaser closes with an emphasis on the animation being incomplete. And the cheerful theme lives up to the title, with a friendly approach that might be geared towards younger players, especially compared to Saga’s deadly sins and demons.

The world of HeartWarming feels like a vintage storybook, with cozy settings that have a hand-drawn quality. Alongside the upbeat music and wintry forests, HeartWarming ultimately has the festive charm of the Holidays. Even some of the monstrous enemies ride sleds. This game will simply be gorgeous to look at, throughout.

The central ability to transform the state of water, through burning or freezing, is also a creative little tool. It’s used to overcome a variety of obstacles in today’s teaser, and can even create platforms. There are fiery enemies that have ice shields, so it’d be neat if players had to swap between melting and freezing to defeat them.

Either way, even in this early stage, HeartWarming already has promise, with a decent hook, adorable artwork, and a clear vision.
