Aurora: The Lost Medallion – The Cave may not look like the most accessible title in this genre, but it’s almost certain to please those who already enjoy this kind of storytelling.

The performances are spot on, filled with cute factor and personality. These go a long way for the point-and-click genre in particular. But the hand-drawn art will also impress, as it provides a very tactile texture to every scene. The characters look like they were ripped right from an old school adventure comic.

The premise also encourages players to explore every possible conversation in hopes of gleaning answers. Aurora’s Steam page notes that this game is only the first chapter, which hints at the potential scope of the lore. It makes investing in the characters and world even more worthwhile.

While today’s demo trailer mostly introduces the cast of characters and dialogue, the game will actually include quite a few puzzles. This lines up with the devs’ influences. They’ve directly mentioned inspiration from 90’s classics The Dig and Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis.

There’s a sense of wholesome adventure and intrigue, almost reminiscent of 80’s coming-of-age films, which blends well with cozy sci-fi.
