M.O.B. Vanguard has announced that they will provide licensing and consultation for Lemery Games, the designers behind Chili Mafia, Bagh Chal, and Reviving Kathmandu. Here’s the announcement tweet from the M.O.B. Vanguard feed:
Although plans for future games aren’t explicitly stated, M.O.B. Vanguard makes it clear they’re confident in the Globetrotter series. Each game in the series is connected, where players are a special agent traveling around the world on different missions. Each theme is also inspired by the designers’ personal travels.
This premise is flexible enough to continue perpetually, and there’s no reason to reinvent something that’s working.
In Chili Mafia, players build chili pepper gangs vying for control. Sure, I’m a little disappointed Chili Mafia simply uses organized crime for mi gente. But the peppers are fun little characters, the colors really pop, and the gameplay looks snappy and accessible.
The second game in the Globetrotter series is Reviving Kathmandu, where players rebuild the titular city following an earthquake, and aim to be the most respected craftsman. This one has a really uplifting and innovative premise.
Reviving Kathmandu recently held a successful Kickstarter campaign. With Reviving Kathmandu, the designers also donated to the All Hands and Hearts organization. You can watch an official trailer for the game on the Lemery Games YouTube channel:
Bagh Chal is the third game from Lemery Games, focusing on abstract strategy. The official page for this one states that it’s only the first in a Pocket Game Series.
Each of these three titles have included high quality components, a strong theme, and decent twists. Plenty of effort is put into smaller details, which are real highlights. For example, the peppers in Chili Mafia reference their Scoville grade, and the unique architecture of Kathmandu feels authentic. It’ll be a thrill to see where Lemery Games and M.O.B. Vanguard go next.
