Nom Nom: Cozy Forest Café, a cafeteria management and rhythm game from developer Anaïs Salla, will officially be published by DevilishGames and released later this year.
It will be available on PC, mobile devices, Nintendo Switch and Xbox. A concrete release date has not been confirmed, and the Steam page has a release window of Q4 2023.
In Nom Nom: Cozy Forest Café, players prepare a variety of snacks and drinks for adorable animal customers in a relaxing cafeteria environment. Players can also decorate the cafeteria, and befriend the customers to unlock new content.
You can watch today’s new teaser trailer for a gameplay overview on the DevilishGames YouTube channel:
The real hook in Nom Nom: Cozy Forest Café appears to be the sheer flexibility in such a low-stakes gameplay loop. Today’s trailer reveals how players can shape the various layers of their next coffee, and finely reposition window decorations.
While there are many casual sim games, particularly those which serve customers, the gameplay is often highly streamlined in pursuit of relaxation.
That can be effective, but it’s nice that Nom Nom: Cozy Forest Café intends to let players tinker a bit more. It teases enough busywork that you shouldn’t feel too bored, while avoiding the genre’s traditional pressures.
Although the cutesy art design suggests that meeting the customers is meant to be the central highlight, most curious viewers will also be sold by features like the latte art mechanic.
The incorporation of rhythm gameplay is also an interactive way to pass the time with an upbeat soundtrack, and its difficulty is easier to balance.
Nom Nom: Cozy Forest Café might need more to distinguish itself. But its theme is also perfect for mobile gaming. By releasing on Switch and mobile devices, it has even more potential to thrive.
