Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow, a new puzzle and adventure indie from developer Frozen Line and publisher Ravenage Games, has a new update that improves the camera, difficult areas, and AI. While this is a relatively small update, it closely follows launch and addresses some pressing flaws.
In Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow, players lead Griffin through his own mind as a young boy with a teddy bear companion, solving puzzles and exploring a surreal world in search of inner peace.
Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow launched on June 14th, 2023, and is available now on PC. Here’s the new announcement tweet:
Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow is nothing short of mesmerizing, between its surprising world and thoughtful soundtrack. There are more than a few successful games about traversing inward, such as the Figment series. But this particular adventure leans further into the mystery and danger, while pacing itself with lax puzzles. The result is very balanced.
There are also some impressive cinematics. Each scene properly conveys how the fantasy world could translate into complex reflection.
Still, even positive reviews of Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow have occasionally noted some of the technical hiccups.
Surreal worlds are often intentionally disjointed. However, some areas in Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow can feel counterintuitive. Fortunately, today’s update post on Steam mentions that these areas will be streamlined for navigation and difficulty.
Ending up lost does drain the thrill of discovery. But Daydream would mainly benefit from smoother mechanics. Fans are likely waiting for the controls and movement to be updated soon.
Still, it’s nice that the AI characters are improved. This should make the story feel more immersive, which is crucial when the themes are meant to be profound or personal.
It’s encouraging that today’s update is considered the “first”, suggesting more are on the way. Daydream’s level of artistry shouldn’t be held back by minor problems. It’s a gorgeous game, with a sweet narrative and tremendous sense of wonder.
